A few weeks ago I came from York to M25 via M1 on a Saturday afternoon with no delays. Within 3 miles going anti clock with no advance text warning we can to a 50mph sign over the motorway. Two and a half hours later we got to the A3 junction a journey that normally takes less than an hour.
The problem of surging backups did not clear until we passed the Woking turnoff and no accidents or breakdowns closing a lane were seen.
This is really annoying as when using the M3 drivers get no choice but to use the M25 to get into Woking, Chertsey and Weybridge an area which comprises most of SW London on south side of the Thames river which is a natural barrier to traffic. If a slip road from M3 to local area near the junction were introduced then this holdup would be completely avoided for both local traffic and the rest of us could get on without this inconvenience.
