This is probably a very unusual question.

I'm a translator and I'm currently translating a document on H&S procedures on the construction and maintenance of electrical substations. There is one term that I have troubles with and have looked for the definition everywhere and also asked more experienced translators for help. I even contacted my client for help, but the answer I got was apparently from some secretary who did not know much about the topic.

Maybe you could help me with that. I need to know what kind of earthing is "drain earthing". I would appreciate if somebody could give me a descriptive definition or tell me how different is it from other types of earthing.

Hi Beata,

I've had a bit of a look for you and drain earthing appears to be a type of earthing applied when working on overhead lines for the safety of the worker.

Drain Earth is the definition given to an earth used to prevent induced and impressed voltages when working primarily on overhead line circuits.
