Hello everybody,
This is probably a very unusual question. I'm a translator and I'm currently translating a document on H&S procedures on the construction and maintenance of electrical substations. There is one term that I have troubles with and have looked for the definition everywhere and also asked more experienced translators for help. I even contacted my client for help, but the answer I got was apparently from some secretary who did not know much about the topic. Maybe you could help me with that. I need to know what kind of earthing is "drain earthing". I would appreciate if somebody could give me a descriptive definition or tell me how different is it from other types of earthing. Thank you very much in advance! Kind regards, Beata |

Hi Beata,
I've had a bit of a look for you and drain earthing appears to be a type of earthing applied when working on overhead lines for the safety of the worker. Regards Steve |

Drain Earth is the definition given to an earth used to prevent induced and impressed voltages when working primarily on overhead line circuits.
