You would still need to get a cables from the light to the contactor and from the switch to the contactor, so not really a suitable application for a contactor.

You could add additional 5A sockets to the lighting circuit see these http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/MKK0771.html, and connect them to the switches as required

which lights do you want them to come on with ? do you mean on the same switch as some existing ? inside or outside ? i doubt you'd need a contactor. you could maybe use some sort of radio link

Just put a normal socket in the loft fed from the bathroom light feed. It's not likely that someone would come along and plug a 3 kW heater into it is it? Even if they did it would only trip the mcb!

Good idea

No reason why not, it's quite common to power tv aerial amplifiers that way. Put a 3amp fuse in the plug. Mark the socket "lighting only" if you really want to be fussy

That's what I'd do. 5A round-pin sockets aren't really suitable these days when everything comes with fitted 13A plugs, often with PSUs built-into them.

If you're looking for simple remote controls on a 13A plug the easist is one of the wireless remote control plug in units. Simple, funcitonal and relatively cheap and not too much to sort on the mains wiring.

And another thumbs up for a 13A outlet off of the lighting circuit to power simple things in the roof like TV booster or christmas lights.

You won't be forgetting the 30mA RCDadditional protection for the socket outlet and for any/all circuits of the special location will you chaps

Is a loft now a "special location" OMS and would a socket located in a loft and marked lighting only be intended for general use ?

Sockets outlets intended for a particular purpose will be used by anyone for anything in a domestic setting. Trust me, the 13A single socket in my attic wired off the first floor lights has had all sorts of kit wired into it - including Xmas lights outside as Alan C indicates - and I know the risks

Did you know that 99.9% of accidents relating to lighting up our houses with Xmas cheer are associated with falls from ladders, steps and whatever objects they use to precariously hang some festive adornments for us all to enjoy, I suspect another Xmas will pass quietly without too many smoking corpses littering the streets.

I can't see any mention of "Xmas lights" by the OP? Also why would he want Xmas lights to come on only with the bathroom lights?
He did mention led so I think he just wants some led lights in his bathroom, these will almost certainly be part of a C E approved kit with the transformer plugged into the socket in the loft so all the 240v stuff will be outside the zones

Maybe the led driver is built into the plug. so the circuit that enters the bath room is elv.

otherwises I dont get the point of a socket.
