Hi All

I'm preparing to apply for my CEng MICE interview. However, I am considering taking a couple of years out in the near future to focus on a slightly different academic route. Are you aware whether you lose the qualification if you are not using it in your day-to-day?

Also - if I'm unsuccessful with my application but have, say, 75% of my DO's signed off, can I come back into the industry a year or so later and start where I left off?

Any advice hugely appreciated.

No, there is no mandatory requirement to maintain CPD and so as things currently stand you get to keep CEng once it has been issued, subject to following the rules which do apply and which you will be aware of if you are applying for CEng.

Of course you would be encouraged to maintain CPD and your competency.

For the second part of the question you would be required to show you maintained CPD and your competency, so in that respect you would likely be advised to get back into things and then re apply. I would suggest to wait and see if you fail and in that case take some advice from a PRA.
