I am about to submit my CEng application however I am slightly concerned that my evidence for each competence is too detailed and I am providing too much information which the Assessors will find 'daunting' to read.

Can anyone please advise if there is any guidance as to how much detail to provide? Generally I have between 500-800 words detailing my evidence for each competence giving a couple of project related instances where I demonstrate competence.

Thanks for any feedback.

I would say that 500-800 words for each competance is a bit too much. Have you been in contact with your PRA? He or she should be able to help with this.

It is hard to say as i have not seen your application, but i would say try to keep it short and to the point. do not over elaborate what you write. if you do a claculation for something say 'I calculated X, to show Y using the Z formula' do not write all about the calculation.

As you say writting too much will put the reader off. Maybe get someone else to look at the form and ask their advice.

Thanks Sincy

I did send my draft application to my RPA but the only feedback I received back was that my application 'looks fine'...this makes me think it perhaps wasn't read in great detail by my RPA.

My mentor believes I have possibly included too much information but we have not been able to find any guidance on the matter as to the appropriate amount of detail to provide.

I think the best course of action would be to try and cut down on the volume without losing any of the evidence of competence.

Cheers

Michael,

I would actually try to sit down with your PRA or talk to him on the phone. i know i corrisponded with my PRA via email and it was only until we met face to face and then discussed by phone that i really understood what he meant.

Not to be unkind to the PRA but maybe he is a busy man (or woman) who scanned over it, or maybe it is fine, who am I to say. Best to talk it over with them. they are there to help you after all.
