Hi guys. I'm sorry to bother you all with a topic that must have been covered 1000s of times already but I am awaiting a date for my PRI and the prospect is making me a little anxious at exactly what to expect. Those of you who have successfully accomplished IEng may be able to offer some kind words of advice on what type of questions to expect, the level of interrogation at IEng level, the number of interviewers etc. A good thing is that I have genuinely achieved all that I claim and if they consider my work history sufficient then I should just be able to state the truth and tell them exactly what I've achieved professionally to satisfy them of my credibility. I also meet the educational standards so (hopefully) no problem there. My nearest venue is Bristol so if anyone could let me know anything about the venue/type of interviewer etc for there then I'd be most grateful too.
I am currently employed as an M+E project engineer at a nationwide engineering firm and have had little problems in amassing a good deal of evidence which I have retained in a logical order (for each competence) in a large A4 ring binder. I'm trying to anticipate the type of questions I may be asked and hopefully I can then turn to a relevant page in my folder to assist me in answering the question. The supporters I found are also both PhD graduates (one was my old lecturer at uni) and as both wrote good reviews, I'm hoping this would look favourable too. ------------------------- Scott Seedell - BSc(Hons) IEng MIET |

Hi Scott,
I had my IEng PRI today and, in my opinion, it went well. The whole process was far less formal than what imagined. I was prepared to give my best sales pitch using the laptop, projector, etc but I was asked just to sit down, relax and talk through my technical projects. I would say the presention actually took up abot three quarters of the time I was in there (about an hour); this was due to taking questions throughout the presentation and also pulling pieces of evidence from my portfolio that related to the projects. It was definitely useful to have the portfolio of evidence to hand as this made explaining technical elements far easier. If I was to offer any advice, it would be to just know your project(s) and application form, and have on-hand any drawings/reports/etc that can support your case. Also, try not not to stress out about it too much as it's not as bad as it seems. The PRI was described to me as "not like a formal interview, more like a discussion between like-minded people" - this was exactly what it was like. Cheers, JBB ------------------------- JBB IEng MIET |

DonaldFisher...hey buddy thanks for the feedback, glad it went ok for you. I still haven't had my PRI date through yet but the more I think about it, the more confident I get and the easier I predict it to be. This is most unusual for me as I'm usually very pessimistic, mostly with no reason to be.
I have done quite a lot of groundwork and have amassed a bulky portfolio so I'm fairly confident I can answer most of what they ask. Anyway, thanks again. People giving their opions and experiences are a definitely help. Cheers ------------------------- Scott Seedell - BSc(Hons) IEng MIET |

Hi all.
For those that are interested I had my PRI during the week and it was just as everyone has suggested; more of a chat with like-minded colleagues than an interview. I was asked to give a 15 minute presentation (although through bad planning on my part this didnt turn out a huge success) and then we had a general chat about engineering for about an hour. We had quite a lot in common and I believe it went quite well. Although they wouldnt give me a direct answer when I asked if I had been successful, they did say that they had seen more than enough and one of the reps even said 'welcome' when we shook hands at the end before I left. I would say to anyone awaiting their PRI and worried about it...don't be. A good presentation would be a great ice-breaker and would set the scene nicely (don't do as I did and compile a report, of which there wasn't sufficient time to deliver it). It was obvious we shared a common interest and I think the two reps who interviewed me were genuinely interested in my position and the role I provide for my employer. It turned out to be quite a pleasant meeting with like-minded engineers. ------------------------- Scott Seedell - BSc(Hons) IEng MIET |

Glad to hear it went well Scott and good luck for your result.
Be prepared to wait though - it's taking me up to 10 weeks to find out my result! JBB ------------------------- JBB IEng MIET |

DonaldFisher....congrats mate, glad you got in. I still haven't heard about mine yet but it's only been 5 weeks since the PRI, so could be another 3 yet. I was hoping the decision might have been given around the same time as yours but nevermind, I'll have to wait a while longer. At least checking the mail gives me something to look forward to when I get home!

If you check on MyIET under My Account, it tells you the stage that you are at.
You'll be able to see there if it has went to review panel as of yet. Good luck. ------------------------- JBB IEng MIET |

Found out today that I got accepted. The pack turned up in the post this morning so that's a worry off my mind! I plan to give myself some quality experience over the next few years while I work towards my masters and then apply for CEng. Good luck to everyone applying for professional registration and thanks to everyone who gave me good advice.
