Hi Members,
I would like to have some advise regarding degreasing Ex Electrical Motors. These motors are being used in Oil & Gas Plant, and it has been found recently that most of the motors are overgreased, and the grease was found between the rotor and stator and also at the motor colling fan, this was due to improper greasing method. Do we have to degrease just using a clean cloth, or do we need to apply any specific product, steam cleaning and drying ? Thanks for your assistance |

Sorry, been off line a bit due to moving house.
Yes excess grease can simply be removed with a rag or cloth. However to get oil residue off the windings you will need to "wash" them. This will be some form of solvent, but must be one that does not effect the insulation of the windings. You will need expert advice from the manufacturers or an approved "Ex" repair co. If someone is taking the Ex motor apart to do this work, then they must be trained in Ex repairs as there is a danger of not reassembling the motor correctly wrt flamepaths & gaps . Peter |
