I need to export to Saudi Arabia a temporary pilot plant which incorporates a small but fully functioning laboratory. Within this plant we need to supply plug and socket outlets for laboratory testing equipment including fridge, laptop etc. In the UK a normal three pin plug and socket would suffice. We are also providing 220V industrial type plug and sockets elsewhere in the plant again normal IEC309 sockets would be supplied in the UK, but what is the standard in Saudi Arabia and where does SASO apply. Any details would be appreciated.

Hi amtyson10,

"Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) has announced that:

1. The SASO / GSO standards for plugs and sockets will be applied compulsory from February 23rd, 2010. The relevant standards are: SASO 2204/2003 (Flat blade plug, similar to the North American/Japanese 2 and 3 blade plug), SASO 2203/2003 (Two parallel flat pins with ground pin, similar to the British 3-pin plug), SASO 443/1985, GSO 1841/2007, GSO 1842/2007

2. The Energy Efficiency Labeling regulation will be applied compulsory from May 1, 2010 for the following products:
- Air Conditioners
- Refrigerators and Freezers
- Washing Machines

The relevant standards for EER are: SASO 2663/2007, SASO 2664/2007, SASO 2692/2007

The announcement was made by SASO in a letter to the participants of the Mutual Recognition Program (MRP). The certification bodies for Saudi Arabia Certificate of Conformity (CoC) are required to make sure that the products comply with these requirements before issuing any CoC after the corresponding deadlines. After the announced deadlines, any shipments of products not complying with the above mentioned requirements will be rejected by the authorities at Saudi custom ports."
