I am currently an IET Member and really want to be part of the STEM project especially in Africa. I have realized that this is only limited to citizens in the UK. Please, could some help me to be part of the STEM Project??? Hi, Have you tried contacting the IET Education 5-19 Department? See http://faraday.theiet.org/about/contact/index.cfm They should know how the IET supports overseas members who want to help. ------------------------- Andy Millar CEng MIET MCMI http://www.linkedin.com/in/millarandy |

Eh? What do you mean?
Firstly, I don't go into schools to recruit them. I go to inspire them about science, engineering and technology and hope that some of them decide to pursue careers in those areas. Secondly, if I was recruiting someone, whether they were home educated or not wouldn't make a difference - whether they were up to the job and had a personality I could work with would be how I'd play it. However I'm not in a position where I have ever had recruit in that way! As far as home educated children counting for the STEM Ambassador Scheme then yes, any promotion of STEM subjects to children counts. I have done events where parents have brought along home educated children. |

This is a good suggestion - IET 5-19 may be able to help you get into schools. However this will not be part of the STEM Ambassadors project as that is only for schools in UK. |

However it's about going into schools and promoting science, technology, engineering and maths to school children. Do home educated children count? Would you be happy or nervous to employ a formerly home educated person? Whether it is home educated person or not, having knowledge is important. |

There is a question of ethics here. Does the UK really need any more engineers than it currently produces when countless people come on this forum bemoaning that they can't find an engineering job? Has the IET ever looked into how many underemployed engineers and engineering graduates there are? Something the IET doesn't do is EOTAS. Bingo! |
