Hi IET YPs
Please find below a verion of a letter me that will be formally distributed to those eligible during the coming week. It is a call for applications for the YPCT from highly motivated, experienced and well connected YPs within the IET community to help improve the overall YP offering from the IET through greater influence of YPs within the institution.
The Board of Trustees (BoT) recently approved the transition from the Young Professionals Board to a relatively larege Young Professionals Forum, which is to be coordinated by the Young Professionals Coordination Team.
Exact details of these constructs are being finalised, but if you would like details of the paper that was approved by the BoT, send me an email on email@example.com.

Dear Young Professional colleagues of the IET

The Young Professionals Board (YPB) is seeking applications for 2 positions from Young Professionals for the 09/10 session (beginning October 09) for a period of 3 years. Full details of the role and composition of the YPCT are enclosed.
The YPB will vote on the applications at their meeting on 21 August with applicants notified of the outcome shortly after. Once established, the YP Forum will vote on applications to the YPCT.
To be eligible for election to the YPCT, the applicant or candidate should have, within the last two years:
(a) completed a term of office on an IET Board, committee or Council, or;
(b) held an executive role in a TPN Executive Committee, YMS or LN Committee.
It is preferred that one or more executive roles have been held for a combined period of three years to coincide with the term of the office above.
To be eligible for election to the YPCT, the applicant or candidate will not concurrently (once the term begins)::
(a) be an office holder on any IET Board or reporting committee, BoT or Council;

Dr Sam McLaughlin
Chairman, Young Professionals Board
Young Professional Co-ordination Team (YPCT)
The Young Professionals Coordination Team (YPCT) comprises a small group of YPs, appointed by the Young Professionals Forum (YPF) from amongst its members and is supported by the Chief of Staff and a YP Community Manager.
The primary objective of the YPCT is to ensure that all YP relevant channels within the IET remain open and effective. This is achieved by managing and driving the Young Professionals Community and through supporting and coordinating other YPF members.
Members of the YPCT agree to:
. Drive the creation of a global community of YPs;
. Maintain a dedicated focus on all YP based activities across the IET;
. Maintain a sound awareness and knowledge of the state of YP engagement across the IET and of the YP participants contributing to that engagement;
. Identify and co-ordinate YP activities that fall outside the formal governance structure;
. Encourage and motivate YPs such that all YP reserved position are allocated and filled with adequately and appropriately skilled YPs;
. Provide a youthful ambassadorial role for the IET where appropriate;
. Support YPs on Boards and reporting committees so that they can maintain a focus on matters of their respective Board or Committee while remaining aware of YP input on matters of the other boards and committees;
. Organise a global challenge every three years in order to retain freshness and to always be challenging a new set of YPs;
. Maintain the pipeline of competent and appropriately trained YPs coming into, and progressing on through, the IET governance structure;
. Coordinate the development of interactive online training for YMS committee members;
. Coordinate the provision of adequate levels of training for active YPs throughout the IET;
. Collate the views of the YPC into formal proposals to be fed into the relevant area of the IET through the YPF.
. Promote YP participation in IET governance through encouraging YPs to support candidates and/or stand for election or appointment to IET boards and committees, and to encourage YPs to vote in elections;
. Identifying suitable YPs to participate in the delivery of IET products, services and activities;
. Providing a focus for contact and interaction with other YP communities outside the IET;
. Provide a channel to identify where YP input would be valuable within the IET.
The YPCT typically has 6 members including 5 volunteer members who are YPs and are not currently serving on any other IET Boards or Committees, and the Chief of Staff. Additional support is provided by a YP Community Manager.
Volunteer members are asked to allow for a service period of 3 sessions upon election to the YPCT.
A chairperson is elected by the YPF for a term of two years, followed by a year as past chair. Where election to the chair occurs part-way through the individual's term of appointment to the YPCT, the overall term will be adjusted accordingly.
The under-30 age constraint applied to YP designated positions on constituted Boards and Committees does not apply to the YPCT.
The YPCT is not a formal part of the governance structure of the IET and its role is expected to evolve as the YPC and YPF become sustainably established. The YPF has the flexibility to increase or reduce the number of members appointed to the YPCT as circumstances dictate.
Communication between YPCT members is predominantly electronic. However members meet annually at the VCW and hold at least two stand alone meetings each session. One meeting coincides with a mainstream event such as a Prestige Lecture or an awards ceremony, while the other coincides with a BoT or Council meeting, to allow for interaction with Trustees and/or Council members.
To support local YMS's in motivating the YPC in the regions, the YPCT assure attendance of at least one member of the YPCT at an annual regional YP gathering. It is preferable that the YPCT member assigned would be resident in the region holding the gathering.
