Can anyone please explain why the IET books have a higher price for the PDF version than the hardback version?
I can appreciate that for the hardback there are printing and binding costs to factor into the price but PDF does not have that.
If anyone can explain why the soft copy is more expensive than hard copy I would appreciate it

Hi raymondfcragg,
Thank you for the message.

The IET's e-books are priced 1-to-1 with the print books even though e-books carry VAT, so the price paid includes that.
If there's a discrepancy with this policy please point it out to me and I will investigate.

It is appreciated that for hard copy books every one has to be individually manufactured but I don't believe that it is the same with PDF books. There is a cost of making a book into an online version for sure but that cost really should be shared over the anticipated number of sales.
It is a one off cost and totally different to hard copy books

Take the publication "Advanced Signal Processing". In hard back copy, with member discount, costs STG 48.75 whilst the reduced e-book version costs US$ 88.92. This is approximately STG 52.

I fail to see how even with reduced pricing the e-book version is costing more than the hard back edition
