Alan,
It's a number of things. The forum pages build dynamically from a database with very little caching, so will always be sensitive to any slowdown of the servers. There are also calls to external sites for analytics, adverts and the jobs widget, any of which could cause the page load to stall for a while, plus the code to look up and display avatars. We're now back to a full compliment of servers after completing our release procedure, so performance should be generally good. I've made some test posts and timed them at 4.269s, 3.459s, 4.834s, 3.815s, 3.666s and 3.446s ------------------------- David Bacon Internet Services Group The Institution of Engineering and Technology |

As David days, 22 seconds is very long. We are not seeing anything like that time (and the servers are external to us here, as they are to you).
Edit: It took about the same time as David reported to post this message. Regards ------------------------- David Rossall The Institution of Engineering and Technology |
