Dear All,
Is it really worth to pay GBP 191.50 for my 2012 IET membership subscription? |

The answer to that question will vary with each individual. Perhaps the question should be what are you getting for your money? That will also vary with each individual, but my view is that what you get out of the IET depends on how much you make use of the services, and how much you contribute. Many people I know just pay their annual subscription and that's as far as it goes, they never attend any IET events and don't participate at all, they may see that as not good value for money, but that is largely their own fault. I would expect that someone who regularly attends events, and makes good use of other IET services may well see the subscription as good value.

It's almost 5% increase! Now that's still taking the p***.
I'd be tempted to raise a motion of no confidence in the trustees but it's probably better I just cancel my direct debit! ------------------------- Mark Tickner CEng MIET Edited: 17 October 2011 at 11:57 AM by tickner |

I thought the fees were to be "revealed" at begining of Nov - last time I looked this was mid Oct - have I lost 2 weeks?
I think the Trustees/Leadership have serious questions to answer!!!!! COME ON IET - STOP RIPPING US OF Me thinks "vote of no confidence" may be necessary. Jim Harden |

Where is the link pointing to the increased fees?
The 2012 IEEE annual full membership fees are $151 (£96). That's equal to the 2012 IoP annual fees (same as 2011), assuming 9+ years experience. At this price a registered member can swap their MIET for MIEEE and MInstP. Looks like the IET can judge management and finance skills from candidates applying for CEng, but can't run their own institution in a cost effective way. Hopeless..... Where is the link pointing to the increased fees? MyIET -> My Account -> My Membership EngC fees seems to have gone up by £1.5 to £32.50 (+4.8%) IET fees have gone from £152 to £159 (+4.6%) I'm going to amend my post below because I was using the wrong base point, but that is still an above inflation hike. ------------------------- Mark Tickner CEng MIET |

The increase has been about 10-11%.
How the IET may justify this increase? |

Me thinks this coupled with Andrew Wilson's reply to my earlier concerns are the final straw.
Letter of resignation to Chief Exec being considered. The IET is a joke. Jim Harden MIET TMEI MSOE MIPlantE MBES |

Just checked with SOE - even with this years increase (approx 4%) they are still £40 cheaper than this. Staff are also helpful not rude and dismissive.
Think I will be going that route. Jim Harden |

Jim, one thing I have never ever ever come across at the IET is any member of staff who is rude or dismissive!

You obviously did not see Andrew Wilsons reply (which was subsequently amended by him) to my concerns about the current fees.

Just seen on MYIET that me fees for 2012 are outstanding - how come when IET has not had the good manners to advise me of them despite requests.
Likewise I see they are now £157 - why such an increase Director of Membership JUSTIFY this as I feel I am being ripped off????? |

Is it significant that, in three weeks, no member of staff or trustee has seen fit to respond? This suggests that the trustees are not accountable to the membership.
In terms of a direct answer to SAVIO's question, Andy T suggests that we should attend events. What events? In continental Europe there are none. I took a trip around the continental LNs' Web sites (including Cyprus and Malta) and found nothing. That's a serious "Why?" ------------------------- Mike Wrigley Past Chairman, French Network |

I have got my MHKIE qualification to practice in Hong Kong. It only costs me GBP111 a year. Why should I have to pay another GBP191.50 for something I don't need. How to justify?
