A user name is displayed to the left of all posts, but why when i click on someones user name, it always comes back 'there is no user of that name'.
Surely this is an error? Using private messaging is also akin to pulling out nails with your teeth. Can we have some practical fixes please IET? If I have not logged on and try to see a User's profile, I get a message that the profile is hidden. If I have logged on, the profile is displayed for some but not all Users. Regards, John |

Could you confirm exactly which message you are seeing? The message:
"Sorry, there is no profile visible for the user you specified" is intended to convey that the user has not yet chosen to make his or her profile visible. Necessarily, having a visible profile is a matter of individual choice. Are you able to see my profile, for example, as this is visible? David, Thank you for the reply.
This is the message i see most of the time: ''sorry, there is no profile visible for the user you specified. Please ensure you have typed in the correct details. The person you are searching for may not have a public profile or they have only made their profile visible to certain users. Please make sure you are logged in so we can identify you.'' If the person has selected to keep their profile private, would it not be better to have a different message stating their privacy rather than an error message. Certainly in my case, i always think its something thats gone wrong Many thanks, P ------------------------- ---------------------------------------- Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine.... Certainly I recognise that you will often get the error message because a user has not yet opted in to having a public profile - we should all be encouraging more members to take part in the community by making some form of profile available to others. We have set out to give options on how much information you reveal, but it is always helpful to understand something about the person who is posting in response to you, and his or her background.
I am sorry that you have not found the message clear. It is intended to suggest that a likely reason is that the other party has chosen not to have a public profile. We could look at the wording again - it would be helpful to have comments from others here on how they have understood the message. This message has a limited shelf life I'll try to reply quickly then The message from Jim Harden has been removed. I'm not sure whether you are referring to an email notification? That's one of the disadvantages of those on any forum - the notifications cannot be retracted. As far as logout problems are concerned, are there specific pages where this occurs? Normally, pages use a standard logout link, so I wouldn't expect it to work on one page and not another. I have seen cases where latest posting indications in the main forum listing are not updated immediately; this can mean that the author of a moved or removed message is still listed as last poster. We can flag this up with the suppliers to look at.
I haven't yet managed to reproduce the logout problem. If you can find a reproducible way to do this, please let me know. The logout link should, as I said, be the same on all pages.
