I consider the introduction of the email notification and on-line version of E&T to be a useful addition and I have recently decided not to continue to receive a posted paper version.
However, I do notice that the on-line version has been simplified and hence my decision means I am losing out slightly. Other pubishers are now offering their magazines in an on-line format that presents an exact version of the equivalent paper document, together with the ability to download selected pages as a PDF, e.g. Electronics Weekly. I would like to propose that the IET consider this format. What do others think? Regards, Norman Bambridge, CEng, MIET |

I will support the proposal that the on-line version should be similar to the print version.

I have received several "exact version of paper document" magazines, including Electronics Weekly. I find them slow and difficult to read, which I think is due to the screen resolution not matching paper resolution, so the reader needs to magnify and scroll repeatedly. So I have given up on them.
Jakob Neilson has a lot to say on website usability in his newsletter on www.useit.com The Economist has the best example of adapting articles to the internet. ------------------------- regards, Rod Dalitz (CEng MIEE FInstP) rod.dalitz@blueyonder.co.uk |
