I received my 2011 IET Diary today with a slip that said that if I wanted to receive one in 2012 and beyond, I would need to opt-in at www.theiet.org/diary

OK I've been to www.theiet.org/diary and logged in using my username & password, but I cannot see any mention of 2012 Diary etc.

Any ideas please?

Cheers!

It's there, I had to dig around for a while - you might expect the link would take you right there - but I can't remember the exact trail.

Go to MyIET and click on the tab "My Account" on the right hand side. Look in the right hand column under membership options. You need to be logged in to gain access to MyIET of course.

The link should take you there.

As Keith says, you may have to log in. If you do not have a Web site account, you may need to register, but the system should still return you to the correct page once you are (registered and) logged in.

If you have a problem then the simplest work around is to log in first and then follow the diary link http://www.theiet.org/diary/

This should land you on the personal details tab in the My account area.

However, do let us know of problems so that we can address these.

Hope this helps.

Regards

I had the same problem with the link not working. The advice given by keithgparr above did work though.

Given that we all received instructions with this year's diary, shouldn't there be an obvious link on the homepage?

The link www.theiet.org/diary actually takes you to www.theiet.org/my/index.cfm?tab=account which has two tabs, "personal details" and "payments/transactions"
Personal Details has a box for the diary at the right-hand side, which is off the screen area I use for internet, so I did not see it at first. I had expected www.theiet.org/diary to take me right to an obvious page, whereas I had to look around to find it.

The intention is that www.theiet.org/diary should take you directly to the My Account tab. When checking to see what the problems being reported might be, we did discover that if you have "remember me" set you end up on the Interests tab. We've now fixed this.

Can't find anything remotely resembling a diary option on my account tab! Any ideas?

scropper, you have a non-members login account. Can you contact webmaster@theiet.org with your details (name, member no and postcode) and we'll convert your account to a members' account. Once your account has been converted, you'll see the diary opt-in on the right hand side of the My Account tab.

I was confused too. I was (after logging in) taken to a page which seemed to want me to change my password.

I did a search of the site and found this thread which taught me to find the requisite tick box. I'll believe it's worked when I receive my 2012 diary.

I use a 1024*768 screen and the diary option is hidden off screen until I scroll through.

ho hum, I'm feeling old

Found it now; convoluted what! Must be my age or perhaps the route instructions could have been clearer if rendered in Welsh.

I found the process very time consuming when tried this morning, without this forum I would never have go there!

One almost gets the impression that the IEE (sorry IET) does not wish to issue too many diaries!

One query, the 2012 diary is offered as an Option...is this a no-cost option?

Just one question. Do all IET members have internet access and a log in ID. If not how do they register to obtain a diary in 2012?

Alan,

I seem to remember that at the time of the merger one of the main reasons was that we were becoming more inclusive as an institution. Am I just being naive?

I have also of course received the slip with my diary, again I followed the link and despite logging in and searching about my profile page I cant see anything to do with diaries

I thought "Engineers" were meant to resolve problems not create them!!
Given every member will have received an diary and many will want diaries in the future then why not just have a nice big "Diary 2012" link to follow ? is this too easy for the web administrators or as some already suggested after fifteen minutes wasted on a Sunday evening we just all give up and not bother?
Yes, I agree its a money saving exercise, why not just be done with it and say no more diaries are being issued?

I'm not impressed and since I cant select to receive my diary for 2012 can I just get a discount from my membership fees for next year?

We all know the answer to that one dont we!!!

I'm angry, dissapointed and not impressed.

Like most others I have also followed the suggestions posted here nad cannot find any link to opting in to the diary. Maybe because I am using a netbook I cannot scroll far enough across!!

So, how does one opt in??

You can still find the option even if you are using the netbook.

Members have previously expressed the need for this option so that it will not be a waste to send some one a diary when it is no longer needed.

I find the diary useful and will like to have it.

If someone has no internet access I hope a written letter will be accepted as well.

Well. the option is not available to me and have just checked via a desktop so it is not a "limited screen" netbook problem
