Luke,
There is some information on mentoring on our webpages at: www.theiet.org/mentoring (or follow the link to the mentoring section under Careers & Training). Depending on the type of mentoring relationship we provide training and information for those seeking to become a mentor. The IET also have a volunteering service for those who want us to help them find a mentee (although it would appear from your message that you have already got someone that you are supporting). If you would like further information you can either contact me directly or e-mail the IET mentoring team at: mentoring@theiet.org. ------------------------- Kathryn Bain IPD & Mentoring, Professional Development Dept The Institution of Engineering and Technology |

Hi Kathryn
I have someone that needs a little help and guidance regarding Chartership and their career path etc. I have offered to be a mentor, depending on what would be typically involved. Also I would like to be able to sign off some of their chartership application.... I have looked at the website, and it doesn't really help, and I don't fancy travelling half way around the world to attend a course to mentor, especially if I am having to pay for it myself... So could you give me a basic outline of whats expected, and what I can and cant do??? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated thanks Luke Edited by moderator to remove personal email address owing to risk of spam Edited: 19 August 2010 at 11:01 AM by IET Moderator |

For anyone else wishing to be a mentor, or considering the role of mentoring the IET provide some guidelines for mentoring relationships which allow both mentor and mentee to understand the requirements of a pairing - these are available in both our mentor and mentee guides. There are also a number of guidance documents and suggested books and articles in our mentoring resources area (available at: www.theiet.org/mentoringresources)
