The government is looking for projects that will benefit the country and provide work for the unemployed right now.
HS2 is being planned as a totally green project but will it be economical to electrify the whole route or should just the parts inside city boundaries be electrified on environmental grounds?
To electrify the tracks in the countryside is normal practice but why?
A diesel engine locomotive can easily be produced that is 70% efficient if the heating of carriages is taken into account!
That better than most power stations, so were is the benefit to the traveling public.
