Hi,
Can someone please help me? Im currently writing a report on how the presence of DC electrified railways may affect AC low voltage systems in the immediate vicinity and what mitigation measures can be applied. Could anyone give me some advice on this subject to help build my report? Thanks Gareth |

Hi Gareth
The principal problem will be stray current corrosion of the cable itself and any other buried metalwork. Any new DC electrified line will need to incorporate measures to minimise this to a level As Low As Reasonably Practicable. Where existing installations are concerned, the best prevention is separation and to ensure that any part of the service earthing system is separated from the DC traction return system. If you want some further info, please could you send me a personal message with some more details and I'll see what I can do. Best regards Richard. ------------------------- rallen |
