When performing rolling stock performance calculations rotational mass has to be taken into account. Typically rotational mass is estimated to be 5-10% of the train mass. Does anyone know where these values come from? and how much of the rotational mass can be apportioned to which rotating part e.g. wheels, gearboxes, motors etc.
