Hi, sorry if this isnt actually the correct place to post but seems like the closest topics are in this part. I have just completed my foundation Engineering degree and have been offered a place and sponsership from network rail to do the Foundation Railway Engineering degree. I wasnt wondering if anyone could give me any advice as to if this would be a smart career move or not? I am interested in the railway industry but just finding it abit daunting choosing a course for my career.
Many thanks

sounds like a good plan.
should give you an all round view of Network Rail and help you decide what you want to do.
good luck

It is as good a place as many others to pursue a career in engineering. Railways will be around for a long time to come, they continue to be invested in, they exist worldwide and make good use of new engineering technologies for their drives, controls, communication systems, etc., etc. I suggest you look at the content of the course on offer and if it has the mix of mechanical, electrical, electronic and/or other disciplines you like then go for it.

Regards.

Thanks alot for your replies, the course itself covers many aspects in the first year ofwhich i will then pick a specific area for the second. I think i will enjoy it as its more hands on, your at uni for 7 months then working for 5 months. Going to reply to my offer today. looking foreward to starting it now!
Cheers

Hi,
I graduated in July 2009 with the Foundation Degree in Railway Engineering, I'm back at Hallam doing the BEng. I've worked in the rail industry since 1992. If you need any info, dont hesitate to contact me.
