In a large wind turbine what is the purpose and benefits of the deltas?

I have not encountered them before and want to know about these mysterious bits of kit

'The deltas' sounds like a contagious disease !
I think you need to explain what you have in mind as there is no mysterious kit on conventional wind turbines....

Having seen single line diagrams for turbines around maximum design load of 0.5Mw, the turbine is delta connected to it's load transformer, with outgoing connection in star.
This transformer operation is curious and the definition of load is misleading, as with the nature of wind turbines it is bi-directional.

They are mysterious to me mate.

I am talking about multi Megawatt turbines.

These I believe is what I'm talking about

I understand they are there for improving the quality of the power due to fluctuations in production and that's about it. Any laymans explanations out there?
