Greetings. We have been tasked with investigating the likely effects of rebar in underground HV cable duct banks (reinforced conrete)affecting cable performance. We are reasonably certain this will have been previously addressed perhaps by The IET, ERA Technology Limited or similar bodies.

Please can any members provide feedback comments and advise if there are any technical papers / articles available on this topic that we can use for reference and where to find them. We thought certain effects like circulating currents, overheating, cable derating, grounding etc etc. could be areas of concern affecting the electrical design. Also what precautions need to be taken during the civil element of duct bank construction.

We would appreciate your feedback to identify issues and any appropriate research initiative documentation. Should we be concerned?

You could try the IET Library as a source of technical papers and other information on this topic. Some services (borrowing of materials, and electronic journals/books) are open to IET members only, but the Library itself welcomes all enquirers.

Hope this helps.
