Surely it is time for the government and private companies to join forces and finally produce an engine and power design which will finally mean the end to petrol/diesel engines and the beginning of a cleaner future.

"If wishes were horses, beggars would ride" as the saying goes.
People have been trying alternative powered vehicles for years, and the only remotely practical one so far is the battery powered electric vehicle. But the batteries aren't good enough yet for anything other than a short range (or massively expensive) vehicle. Biofuels are often worse for the environment than the fossil fuels they replace, which is why people are backing away from them. People have tried flywheels and compressed air, but with limited success. A tank full of diesel or petrol holds an enormous amount of energy. Nothing else we have comes close. ------------------------- S P Barker BSc PhD MIET |
