Hi,

I'm looking for any suggestions on a good text book that will help me to understand the electrical transmission network, theory and apparatus without going into minute complex detail.

I have just started a career training to be a Senior Authorised Project Engineer on HV transmission networks. My background is as a mechanical engineer (hydraulics, gas turbines, fuel systems etc.) I feel that although I understand the basics of electrical engineering and technology I feel I am week in this area and would like to learn the theory to a level that complements my practical skills.

I have been loaned a copy of 'Power System Commissioning and Maintenance Practice by Keith Harker (an IET books) but find the theory goes in at too high a level for me.

Any suggestions most welcome.

Thanks.

There is a name from a past life!

I can also recommend Transmission & Distribution Electrical Engineering by Bayliss & Hardy. I think the latest version is the 4th edition. I have a well used copy of the 2nd edition on my desk at work. It goes through the basics of everything you need to know to build yourself a substation, plus other info as well.

Regards,

Alan.

I endorse Alan's recommendation - it's not a cheap publication, but you can get it on Amazon and check out some samples before you buy.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I've had a quick look, It seems very expensive but I'm keen to buy it. I'll try and see if my employer will 'help' with the costs!

Thanks again.
