I am working on a HV feeder renewal and the client has asked the unit protection must be via fibre optical cables and not the mandatory copper pilot cables. Can anyboy assist me with associated hardware to use excluding the CT's to the adjoining CT's for slave side. Also are there any known projects where this has been implimented at 33kVAC?

Unit protection using fibre optic cables is available from most of the major manufacturers of protection relays. There are two options, either the use of direct fibre, or the use of a multiplexor, increasing the bandwidth available on the fibre.

Alan.

Have a look at the Siemens 7SD610 protection relay, i designed a system here in NZ using direct fibre point to point. Its been a success and the Siemens support was excellent.
