My client wants a standby generator to run with full water cooling - i.e. using a source of water to dissipate the heat rather than using a water/air heat exchanger or radiator.
As a water supply company it has access to a plentiful supply of water and installing a radiator would reduce security and run the risk of noise pollution. Does anyone know of potential suppliers, preferably in the UK, who may be able to help? Thanks. Pete |

I can't offer any names, but I would suggest you look at the marine industry as ships generators tend to be direct water cooled.

A great many sites have water cooling via heat exchangers to either towers, or dry coolers, I've done two that use water from the mains straight thru the exchanger to a drain, one in Paris and one for a water board here in the UK. Would you be using treated water or a raw water source? It's just that I worked on a project and we looked into water cooling and the cost was quite high in the end, this was on waste water scheme so we would have had to have taken our water from the potable water supply. |

We have a significant supply of treated potable water in this case, although it would be chlorinated.
I have two 30" water mains passing close by, so it would be useful to be able to take the heat out that way, if I could get the heat transfer without breaching the main. That way we're not compromising the security of the building. |

I don't think it works as efficient as Water/Air heat exchanger even though there would be no noise pollution .I suggest you to look at Ice manufacturing companies or cold storages as they might be using those type of generators. london carpenter |
