Hi posted this elsewhere but maybe a better place here:

I've recently been asked to approve some paperwork for a new motor that drives a pump. The old motor needed replaced.

The new motor is the same frame size but about 20% higher rated in kW.

Although the load will be the same (i.e. the absorbed power shall not rise), the rated power is 20% greater.

My problem is the cable size. If the load stays the same then the current drawn will stay the same so the cables will be the same.

But.....is there any rule,standard/legislative item that says that the cables should be rated to the rated power...or is the absorbed power ok to use.
