Distributed generation is an approach that employs small-scale technologies to produce electricity close to the end users of power. It is sometimes a renewable energy. It is safe and reliable.

A Naval once Inspector said that: "One potentially effective and protective option for improving energy security is distributed generation. It has analogies to the Navy home-porting initiative of the 1980s. By distributing smaller generating capacity at multiple locations, the pitfalls of relying on a single remote source of power are greatly reduced.
