Hi,
I am dealing with alot of applications to UKPN. What would be the best way of estimating loads for this application. Am i right in thinking that for an office environment, going by the BISRA rules of thumb: Lighting 12w/m Power 15w/m Heating 70w/m Cooling 125w/m multiplied by the floor area. Is the standard method of estimating? |

Howdy Stuart,
Each application should be evaluated on its own merrit and will largely depend upon the servicing stratergy for the building, what form of heating is being provided (LTHW / Air Source heat pumps etc), the comfort cooling and ventilation stratergy (Natural ventilation, Peak Temperature trimming, Full Air conditioning etc). As a rough guide I would suggest the following where a natural ventilation stratergy is being employed: Lighting 12 w/m Small Power 25 w/m Communications rooms 500 w/m Where cooling is being provided I would also suggest the following: Peak Trimming - 40 w/m Full Air Conditioning 70 w/m You are correct in stating that these figures are multiplied by the building area to provide an estimation, however, these figures will vary depending upon whether the building is new stock or refurbishment of existing and servicing stratergy employed.
