IPC/WHMA-A-620, section 19.6 seems to say crimp tools should be calibrated every 30 days, which seems excessive. Anyone have experience of IPC?

IPC/WHMA-A-620, section 19.6 seems to say crimp tools should be calibrated every 30 days, which seems excessive. Anyone have experience of IPC? I would have expected it to be related to the number of crimping actions rather than any specific time duration |

We manufacture to IPC 610 Class 3 and use lots of crimps and tools which are calibrated once a year, however, prior to each job on which the tool is used we carry out a pull off test. This is where we use the tool to to crimp a test sample and then test the crimp to failing point. This gives us confidence in the repeatability of the tool and its settings.
Hope this helps |
