As a mere electrician trying to sort out websites, how beneficial is it having a mobile website with a .mobi adrress?

Not very important at all according to my simple research, I've been around the house searching and accessing websites on various devices including Blackberry, Samsung and Apple phones, also desktop and laptop PCs, plus a blackberry Playbook and an Ipad in conclusion I decided the offering for .mobi sites is not really worth bothering with.

Yep, .mobi domains are not used that much, yet. Better a website with .com name.

Hey buddy
It all depends on your need.
If you are already having a website then I will not be nice to register a separate domain with .mobi extension, in this case I will suggest you to upload your pages at m.domainname.extension.
But if you are building a new website and your targeted audience are mobile users than better have a .mobi domain registered for your business.
