Why would you want to build one?
The circuits to drive many hundreds of LEDs and the arrays of LEDs are speciliased and are cheeper to buy in ready made units. Would you consider trying to build a multi-meter? Sure you could but it would cost much much more than buying a pre-made off the shelf one. PS: DON'T TALK IN BLOCK CAPITALS UNLESS YOU ARE DEATH (or DEAF) |

Welcome,
It has always surprised me that no use has been made of the humble LED in flat screen design. To my knowledge LED's can be 'pin-prick' size with red, green, blue and composite. The advantage is very large displays. With three LED wall displays using front end microntrollers and a CAD PC in X,Y,Z, a virtual conservatory could be designed. Best Wishes, Colin Fox, Jersey. |

In response to Colinfracisfox's surprise at not more use being made of the humble LED in display screens, I had a brainwave over a decde ago, of the ultimate gaming screen being a LED display dome that one sits under.
Imagine being able to fly or drive in a game with a 360 degree all round view and 180 degree Z axis view. Being able to pull a loop in a virtual aircraft and looking "up" to see the ground whizzing past below. Basically to have the same view available as a light aircraft pilot. I was at Uni at the time as a matyre student. I remeber floating the idea with other undergrads, we went to a lab with a whiteboard and started trying to work out the mathematics involved in synchronised pixel movement on a domed screen istead of a flat one, which I, for one have experince of for games, and then it started to become a bit too heavy, someone mentioned that the bar was still open and it was all forgotten about. This resurfaced the memory. If anyone wants to pick up the torch on this concept and run with it, be my guest. |
