Hi all,

I am a mechanical engineer trying to ascertain some system requirements for a controlled electric motor. I am trying to determine the damping and stiffness characteristics of the combined system and having quite some trouble. For the transfer function, instead of finding a standard equation with a second order derivative, I get an equation with a first order numerator and second order derivative.

My first question is - Does it even make any sense to consider a controlled electric motor as if it has damping and stiffness characteristics?

And if so, my second is - What is the best way of doing it?

Sorry, should have clarified, I am analysing a DC motor with PI control.
