I am interested to know what people's thoughts are on the subject of control automation communication standards e.g. EtherCAT.

I have researched into EtherCAT for the linking of servo units so that these units can share information about motor position and force sensor readings.

EtherCAT seems well suited to this scenario but I was wondering what other competing technologies exist that could do the same job.

Kind Regards,

Alan Sellers
