I will be replacing a failed 8000VA ups.

The ups feds a small disboard, I noted that the cable from the usp to the disboard is SY. This cable ideally could do with being uprated from 6 to 10mmsq in acordance with manufactures instruction. however the manufactures instructions make no mention of screened cables. The final circuits are mainly singles in dado trunking. So is there an point using SY.

Obviously in the past when I have installed VSD the load cable is screened, but not convinced in this case as no requirement in the installation manual of the UPS.

Anyhow I would appreciate your comments

For what it's worth none of our UPSs use screened cables (everything from 2.2kVA to 10kVA). I can see several advantages to using SY (or CY), but all of them on the 'nice to have' or 'belt-and-braces' side of the line.

I don't believe that there is any specific requirements.

However given that this is a supply from the UPS and therefore you are looking to provide continuity of supply you may consider SY to provide additional mechanical protection (depending how its run etc).
