Don't think the 18th will be out for a few years yet, we have still got the 17th yellow , blue and brown copies to get through yet.

I think the next Amendment, No. 3, is likely to be the last under 17th Edition, because of latest BSI rules.

I might have this wrong, but I think the new "rules" limit the number of amendments before next full "issue". Not sure exactly which Standard this is in or whether it's one of the guidelines for drafting committees?

Amendment 3 of BS 7671:2008 is expected to be published on the 1st January 2015 and is intended to come into effect on 1st July 2015. This is still the IET Wiring Regulations 17th edition. The Wiring Regulations are published in accordance with BS0.

I must admit I was very pleasantly surprised to discover that there was a BS 0 - a) because there was a 'standard for standards' and b) because it was numbered zero - I guess it appealed to my sense of logic (maybe that's just me).

Paul

Welcome to the forum.

Yes it will be a new book see Geoff Cronshaw's post above. If you search this site you can see the draft of the AMD 3 document which is published for public consultation. You will have to wait until January next year to buy a copy.

To comment on some of the posts on this thread about the 18th edition and Amendment 3 of the 17th Edition:

At Electacourse we have been informed the changes proposed for Amendment 3 of the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations will be confirmed in November 2014, the 'Yellow' book which will replace the existing 'Green' book will be published in January 2015 and from July 2015 all new installations will have to conform to Amendment 3.

To our knowledge the City & Guilds 2382-12 Exam which accredits electricians understanding of 17th Edition will not be significantly changed other than obviously, to include the Amendment 3 changes. Electacourse will be updating our material accordingly.

Amendment 3 will be the last amendment to the 17th Edition. According to Cenelec (European Electrotechnical standards), standards can only have two amendments. BS7671 got a waiver on this requirement because of the necessity to get the Electric Vehicles charging regulations (Amendment 2) out quickly last year.

Electacourse have not been informed when the 18th Edition will be available. Our guess would be 2017.
