Fitted it in a hurry at work then released it was an emergency put a switched fused spur it switch it on and off

I would check that the emergency light was not there for a reason - to help people see when there is a power failure.

No reason you can't change it to be a maintained light (stays on all the time) or switch the maintained light on and off as needed, but I would make sure that if it is still needed as an emergency escape light it still performs this funtion too.

If you just need a normal light there sure, just bypass the charging gear etc. Most em lights are just normal bulkheads etc with gear fitted to them.
