What is the inspection frequency on a diesel pump installation when it is part of a larger installation of Office Accommodation which is inspected every 5 years?

The same question but when it is a factory with a inspection frequency of 3 years?

Would this not be classed as a hazardous area and therefore only a visual inspection of the IP ratings and check the ID tags per year if CompEx trained?

Now I'm not sure, but I didn't think diesel came within the compex 1 year inspection requirement required for petrol filling stations. But I might well be wrong as I am yet to do the compex course. Thought about it though. But it costs loads.

There are various Diesel pump installations. There are no Petrol Pump installations. These are not hazardous areas but I think their inspection frequencies should be 1 year. Our computer system does not flag these installations up as being overdue as the computer is programmed with a 3 or 5 year frequencies.

Hi Kieth
The insides of a diesel pump are classed as hazardous. Should a pipe split inside when the pump is running the pressurised diesel would squirt out which could potentially produce a mist which is has the potential to be an explosive atmosphere. Outside the pump housing is generally not.

A diesel dispenser that is not used by the public is except from local authority licence requirements so there is no requirement to inspect/test annually. Therefore the wiring to it can be treated as part of the rest of the installations inspection and test regime and the pump itself is an item of specialist equipment the client needs to have maintained in exactly the same way as air handling or heating systems which are usually limited out of a standard EICR.

The usual caveats' apply:
1-Do the insurers require a higher frequency
2-As the pump is an item of permanently fixed equipment a routine visual inspection should be carried out by a competent person - this could be the company that carries out routine maintenance - it doesn't mean that the client need to have a compex trained member of staff or electrician - but as always the client needs to prove the person doing it is competent.

I think that covers it - and for what it's worth I did compex 07/08 for petrol station forecourts about 6 months ago - that doesn't make me an expert - I'm just about competent
