I was called to a "sparking" junction. When I got there and up 2 floors in this house I am shown a broom cupboard with an MICC cable to a sealed fuse and DNO meter. I told the client to get UKPN down.
Moving on half a day and they demure their responsibility. They term it lateral, dating from when this was a separate flat. The basement has more (old) switchgear and 2 meters and I thought the MICC at this end was incoming but didn't really check. What's a lateral? Simon |

Something branching off the main run I suspect, never heard the term in connection with electrical systems though,

Sub mains from fuseboards at the cut-out position to the individual flats meters are "laterals" in DNO terminology (don't ask me why)

The DNO's/supplier will state that it's the BNO's (landlords)responsibility, good fun when the supply feeds several flats and the BNO doesn't even know that it is now their responsibility.

As others have said, the lateral main probably belongs to the buildings owner.
I have rewired plenty of these in my previous life as a council spark |

I have had this before
SP started moaning about it and I pointed out that the standing charge pays for stuff before the meter, so as these tails were before the meter it was their problem They fixed it ------------------------- baldelectrician.com |

the lateral, or rising main, in some circumstances belongs to
a third party, normally a local council. can be busbars or micc or swa. Regards. |
