Changing my integral double oven, I find new cooker terminals do not have clamps under "screw" heads, and finding it impossible to get good grip on cables.

Cooker spec says main in cable should be 3 x "2.5mm"- not quite sure what that means, apart from totalling 7.5mm; is a Baumatic double oven.

My current 6mm cable is stranded not solid; if changed for solid
I'd imagine still very difficult to retain cable under screw heads.

Any suggestions valued?

I think they are referring to each conductor, ie L N E all of 2.5mm csa. If you can't make a satisfactory connection by splitting the cores of the 6mm and putting 3 cores on one side of the screw and 4 on the other use a cooker outlet plate or a junction box to convert the 6mm t/e into 2.5 mm flex. Are you sure those instructions are for single phase supplies? sometimes they give two sets of instructions, 2.5mm for 400v 3 phase supplies and 4mm for 230v single phase with link plates to be fitted in their terminal block,

Is there one live terminal or three? There could be the option to make a three phase electrical supply option, in which case there may be some little brass links packed some where, normally in the terminal box held in a moulded section of the box or in the terminals themselves, these links can be used to link three live terminals if that is what you have to allow a single phase connection.

Thanks all; space under & around screw head in it's plastic shroud very limited.

It's a Euro spec oven I believe as allows for 230v single phase, or 400/230 2 phase via some bridging adjustments.

I found T4 the recommened for Neutral would not tighten; therefore as the other N terminal 5, is bridged to it, ran N to 5.

However, though upper oven works, fan oven below is dead.
I'm wondering if it's because I didn't use one nominated, or perhaps because bridge plate on T4 can't be properly tightened.

If things don't tighten then get the suppliers to send you an item that is fit for purpose and ask them for some decent instructions.

I seem to recall that manufacturers are required to supply decent instructions in some bit of obscure consumer law.

The instructions are decent as is adjacent wiring guide label on cooker; however, connecting cable strands to cooker is taken as red.
eg all terminal screws must be tightened securely.

That would be easy, if it wasn't for the cable starnds!!

Remove the screws crimp terminals on stranded cables place screw through terminal tighten up. Bingo

To me, that reads that the oven is intended to be wired using a 3-core 2.5mm cable. Without any further information, I would expect that to be 2.5mm heat-resistant flex.

So the problem is that you are trying to jam a 6mm cable into a terminal meant for 2.5mm.

seems to be quite common these days, imported cookers requiring a non-standard ( well i don't carry 2.5mm 3core hr flex) flex or cable connection that would have cost them peanuts to have fitted in the overall cost of the cooker. I had to source some 6mm 5core flex a while back for a 3 phase cooker, an absolute pain in the backside and cost a fortune.
