Job tomorrow as a favour for my dad.. Existing installation 30+ years old, 3036 fuses, customer doesn't want to have walls chopped etc, dads fitting a complete new bathroom including new electric shower... Shower is wired in 6mm but coming out the isolater is 2.5... Replacing the 2.5 for 6mm and sticking a rcd box (shower pack) at the bored.... Now there is a light in the bathroom she wants 6 down lights instead... How would you suggest I protect the lights, but the existing lighting circuit is pretty much nackerd?.?

Knackered how ? - and an RCD spur would solve most of your issues anyway as long as the existing bonding is up to scratch.

Put a 2 way RCD board in, 1 new shower, 1 new lighting cct for the bathroom. Henley block. Fix bonding.
If you go off the old board and the old installation is a pile of, you wil then be involved in a can of worms. 6mm from the isolator if it's 2.5mm to the isolator won't help.
If it's 6 mm to the isolator from the CU then extend that 6mm into the new RCD 2-way shower unit next to the original board. Then take the existing lighting circuit from the old board and extend it into a 6A (if applicable, it probably is) MCB in the RCD'd shower unit as well. But you knew that anyway, didn't you

Fit ELV down lights fed via SELV transformers,no RCD protection required.Use the departures box on the cert to show a better level of protection than using an RCD.
