Just been reading a couple of past threads and threads on another forum about moving CUs using 3 core 25mm swa and how to make of the swa into the plastic CU. There seems to be a whole consortium of ideas but one thing I have noticed is that no one seems to have mentioned how to terminate a 25mm core into the earth bar on a domestic board??????

You dont, you lug the cpc and bolt it to the metalclad board, or if plastic, you bolt it to the 6x6 galv box that you are glanding it to, and using a 16mm flylead to get it to the earth bar ( via a 32mm bush between the galv box and plastic box).

I guess you're saying the holes in the earth bar are not big enough for the 25mm conductor? If there's enough metal available drill one of the holes out a bit, otherwise split the strands and put two in one hole and three in the adjacent hole. I have done that once or twice when fitting 16mm into those old skeleton type c/units,

Sorry but am trying to watch the celtic game and type at the same time. I cannot multi task. I don't think I've ever lugged one of the cores and then put a tail to that before. May be am old fashioned but I don't like the idea of introducing more breaks into the earthing cable. Usually split and twist but that can be a pain in the ***** when the board is already pretty full.

The use of a pin terminal lug allows the use of larger conductors into smaller holes.

I think Celtic could do with a pin terminal lug at the moment.

Just out of interest where can you get 25*16 terminal pins.

Yes, I've used Lockwell in Wickford before for odd control bits.

We don't have an account there but when I've been stuck a quick phone call has normally saved me.

I had an interesting conversation with the buyer in eddies at Chelmsford this morning. He was telling me that they hold over £3 million in stock lines.....He wasn't quite so impressed when I told him that was really interesting but they actually needed to keep stock lines that we used :-)

Hopefully at least as good as the 16mm2 earthing conductor. In any event it's probably no worse than what the CU manufacturers seem to use to make their internal connections on "17th Ed" CUs these days

How about an external earth bar? I like them, especially in this case when the 25mm core needs terminating properly.

Tricky with SWA I find.
