In 2007 David Cameron said that investment in new nuclear would not be possible unless the nuclear waste issue had been dealt with.

David Cameron interview extract: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...7SFo&feature=youtu.be

Cumbria was the only county in Britain that would even consider hosting a Geological Disposal Facility. (GDF)
The Government offered them heaps of money but in the end it was not enough. Cumbrian councillors voted 7 to 3 to reject the government's search for a suitable site in their county.
Where now for the end product of nuclear power?(immensely hazardous radioactive waste)
The site will only have to be stable and secure for a few thousand years and then the waste will be harmless.

It'll stay where it is (Cumbria) until someone decides they want it.
