Most companies will only provide a confirmation that you worked there and what absense you had. Anything else is subjective and they'll be worried about endorsing you or otherwise to another company.
I'd speak to your old company first to get agreement and then if they need it you could give them a sample text they may wish to use. regards OMS ------------------------- Failure is always an option |

OK - I tend to use the format below - you can fill in the gaps yourself
Their job of (position) carries the following responsibilities (describe briefly the job). (Name) is skilled in (details of skills) and is also (characteristics - eg reliable dependable, a good communicators etc). I would happily re-employ (name) as I consider him/her to be a valuable member of the team, who consistently achieved good results and delivers all expectations. If you require further specific information, please do not hesitate to contact me Wrap it up into a letter and away you go - opportunity to blow your own trumpet Regards OMS ------------------------- Failure is always an option |

Don't make it too good or your new employers might suspect that your current employers are keen to be shot of you! Lol.

A kitchen fitter having worked for a firm for around ten years wanted to go self employed to subcontract work off other firms. He asked one of the firms salesmen to give him the contact details of a couple of customers so he could get references directly from the firms customers. The firm used it as a reason for instant dismissal for "trying to obtain confidential information".
Not the best way to end ten years with the firm. Andy |
