Part M of the building regs drives us to use 1200mm to the top of a light switch as a maximum height. This is to allow wheelchair users access to the switch in domestic/public buildings.

Is there a recommended height for mounting light switches in commercial/industrial plants?

Is this a different height? e.g. 1400mm to the bottom of the switch as I have measured on site.

Is there a recommendation written anywhere?

Approved Document M still applies (with very minor changes), as will the CDM regulations (particulary as workplaces) and a variety of other H&S legislation.

Part M is a guide.
The 1200mm rule is primarily aimed at new builds.
With additions to existing installations, the primary concern of Part M is that the height is consistant throughout the installation.
If all the other switches in the installation are 1400mm, then new ones the guide suggests should also be at 1400mm.
Ther is no distinction between differing types of installation.
