Hi all ,

Can anyone recommend a testkit for domestic commercial and industrial use? I need a new multifunction, the existing one is getting old!

If you were to purchase a Fluke 165X series. You will get a yellow box
The advantage of this is you can
1/ put your sandwiches in the top compartment
2/ Sit on it while you eat said sandwiches
3/ When you've finished your lunch you can stand on it while 2nd fixing the pendent lights.

Otherwise you will need to do bit of research.......
Try here as a start, although this company doesn't appear to support the Fluke instruments

I haven't been impressed by Megger recently

I bought a LRCD tester (I prefer a seperate loop / RCD tester) and had to send it back under warranty. It turned out to be a ribbon cable that was incorrectly seated.

Roll on 9 months, same again- so I open it up remove and refit ribbon cable and hey presto all OK again. This time it lasts 3 months.

I am now left with a Megger bought new that I can't afford to send to get repaired, yet I am back to using my old 2000/2 tester from 9 years ago that still works fine.

My next one won't be a Megger- any opinions?

I'm getting used to my megger ( OMS, did I happen to mention ever at all that it is an MFT 1730?), I like the plug in iPod slot particularly well. But offer me to swap with your brand new top of the range Fluke and I will bite your hand off for it.

Yes, Bald electrician, it has also been back for repair and they did not calibrate it with the repairs so that had to be paid for. Plus the postage.

I think you must borrow one of each for at least a week and have a play. Talk to a company who sells them but check the prices on the web before, so that you know if you are paying more than you need to by buying off line from them. They do lend them, I've had a couple of bits of kit on loan for trial.

My Megger lives in a Fluke box which I bought on line for £20. Much more user friendly and you can sit on it at tea break.

Truth is though, they all do what you need them to.

I think I'm just wanting a newtoy but lately I e been considering a 1730 because my old 1550 is well old and chews up batteries at a rate of knots.

I've always had megger, but I may have to look elsewhere with the crap leads and terrible reviews

I am tempted by the Fluke models , so far have looked at the 1652C and the 1653B although maybe this one is too good?
Anyone own one of these? The box looks very useful too!

I have a two year old Fluke 1652 that has never been used since it was bought that I've decided to sell.

Baldy, send it to lee brown at megger, with a stiff letter and a promise of bad things said to the trade, they hate bad publicity.

Likewise, I have a Fluke 1653, couple of years old, prestine condition, very little use, with PAT adaptor to, offers anyone?.

You may have mentioned it, idly -just in passing, type of thing -

I quite like it - but I don't use test kit often enough to really have a preference between different quirks in competing brands

I'm surprised that your test instruments are never used.

I'd feel as though somebody had removed my arms without a working set of instruments.

As far as I'm concerned, the Fluke 1653 model is an excellent specimen of instrumentation. So, I'd be interested know why you want to remove these from your arsenal .
