Hi Chaps
Can I have some advice on what size Led outdoor floodlight I would need to use to get an equivalent light output of a 300w halogen and a 500w halogen , also what make would be a good one to use. Thanks CMD |

I've used plenty of Diamond LED 15W Celsian floodlights - with no complaints or come backs roughly equivalent to 150W in old money. For some reason they only now do a 12W version instead of 15W.
For larger wattages they say their 35W is similar to an old 300W and their 60W is similar to an old 500W. |

We've been using the Loxa ones around the farms.
30w led seems to be about 300w halgoen. We've just stuck an 80w one high up on a barn instead of the usual 400w halide flood and that seems ok too. Stu |

Owing to silly retailer prices, I use GWS lighting on ebay as my supplier. They have never let me down (20w = £20, 30W = £30, 40W = £40 etc). I do paint the adjusting nuts with galv paint though, and I always fit a separate PIR (both coming out of a black wiska box 85mm x 85mm again only available on ebay).
Make sure you choose warm white if you want an equiv to halogen. |

We've been using some on site -- I'll have to get you the model and name - 70w works on both 230v and 110v!
The only issue I have with LEDs that they seem to be blindingly bright but with no spread. |

SKE - I asked many suppliers at a recent lighting show about these similar lights with integral PIR's. At best they would offer a 2 year warranty on the integral PIR with a much longer warranty on the LED.
Why get a lamp that might be warrantied for five or seven years when the generally non-replaceable PIRs will only have a 2 year warranty? Diamond were the only people I could find that would offer a replaceable PIR. I always fit a separate PIR - might not look as neat but it gives you greater flexibility on type, style and repair. |

Yes that's what I was trying to say. that's exactly how I do it, in fact I go further and wire from a black wiska box even though they are a bit dear. As for PIRs neweys do a really good one for £15, adjustable up / down, left / right. Easy to fit with loads of space for extra connector blocks (for earths that aren't actually required - but that's a different topic!!!!) :-) |

Fitted a couple of these a couple of months ago - 1 x 8 LED PIR version driving a 8 LED non-PIR one.
I have to say that after being initially sceptical, I was mightily impressed by both build quality and light output/coverage. So much so that I ordered one for our back garden. Not cheap but very impressive. http://www.espuk.com/products....?category=8&group=76# It made a nice change to handle and install something which felt and looked like high quality. ------------------------- Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end. |
