Who is working over the Xmas period? We are running a PAT Testing course on Dec 27th and 28th After just getting home from a day of PAT (t)esting training today, I am glad I did. I was sceptical when booking it, but I couldnt really advise anyone on it if I hadnt done it myself, and now I know a lot more than I did this morning. How many Classes of equipment are there? I didnt know. |

Easy - making the students work.
Many Colleges have a rather lax attitude to both time keeping and work needed to be done, - you work hard, and make sure your students hear everything that is required, even if they dont take it all in - they certainly take most of it in, and your course notes make up for anything that has been forgotten - your 2396 notes and CD were excellent, far better than any other course in the Country I'd say. Also, on the subject of 2377, I think all sparkies should do this course, it was a revelation (or should that be shocking) how much I didnt know on the subject, and also, when reading forums, (this and others), how little other people know about it too. Thanks Alan. |

Go on tell us! I first thought 3 - class 1 (earthed), 2 (double insulated) and I think 3 (SELV) - but does class zero (basic protection only) still count? (is there still that exemption for xmas lights & shavers?) so I might go for 4. - Andy. |

5 classes.
As you say, I, II, III,and 0. With 01 too. 0 and 01 are not common - this time of year you will see Class 0 - older xmas tree lights, no CPC, basic insulation only. 01 is in the Code of Practice, but unlikely to be found apart from in really old houses - e.g. metal table lamps on a 5amp 2 pin plug. If anyone doesn't want to do the course, (why not? It is well worth it), I'd thoroughly recommend reading the IEE Code of Practice book which the course is based on, there are things in there which everyone should know, but clearly, don't. There is a new one coming out soon, so don't get it just yet. Alan. |
