Hi all just wondered what everyone thinks of cowboy builders show on channel 5? I think they seem to make things look/sound worse. And sometimes these sites are unfinished so yes are unsafe. Great show though and good to get rid of the cowboys, I just thought a couple of times they can spin it to look worse than it may actually be

Of course they do - it wouldn't be "entertainment" without some drama or other would it.
It's why they put crap people on X Factor - it gives the public the chance to be vindictive - in the name of entertainment of course Regards OMS ------------------------- Failure is always an option |

You really need to careful of these sort of programs, we come into contact with their researchers very often in their search for 'ideal' candidates, they are always looking for jobs on 'stop', basically that means where the LA have stopped a build for a number of reasons, a wall built with no wall-ties, a wooden lintel instead of steel are just some examples, they very often might interview hundreds of people until they find a candidate who fits some very strict criteria they work to, photogenic, socially challenged and any number of rules they can invent, there are very few 'cowboy builds' in all where the builder has run off with the money, the majority are issues with self-build and where the client has not paid or cannot further pay the contractor.
The situation in the UK with 'Cowboy Tradesmen' is endemic and needs no further action, the appropriate enforcing agencies deal with this problem very effectively as the situation arises As my good friend says, It's Entertainment'. regards ------------------------- "Take nothing but a picture, leave nothing but footprints!" ------------------------- "Oh! Totally agree with 'Cowboy Customers'.
I've lost £400 today,+ a days work. Customer wanted double flourescent lights instead of single, I suggested the sort with egg-box style reflectors. Ok, gave a quote, got the job, fitted them, then the Manager doesnt like them and says she didnt agree to that kind of light fitting. At the time I didnt argue, just took them down and replaced the old ones. Now, once I am home, I looked at my quote - surface mount twin tube flourescents with reflectors. I am rather annoyed tonight. |
